Tamahay campers have the distinct advantage of being guided by experienced people who are dedicated to teaching in such a way that the activities, while being fun, are also correctly taught. The result is a feeling of satisfaction when skills are mastered.
All members of our administrative staff hold masters degrees in the field of recreation, with many years experience teaching elementary through college students, as well as working with young people in a camp environment.
Tamahays size, with a maximum of 36 girls per session, allows every counselor and administrative staff member to know each camper. We feel this makes it possible to guide each girl into a very satisfying camp experience.
Campers live in pleasant, comfortable cabins. Six to nine girls are assigned by age to a cabin, with one college-age counselor living with each group to ensure close supervision. Although there is sufficient time each day for necessary rest, a pace is maintained that does not allow for long periods of time with nothing to do.
Tamahay is not a country club for kids. The weeks spent here may be the nearest thing to "roughing it" that some of our campers will ever know. They experience many things, like living, working and playing in a community where each girl makes an important contribution. New skills are learned, friendships are made and sense of responsibility gained.
Tamahay is a unique experience in each campers life. Camp is full of adventure, making new friends, appreciating nature, living with others, yet growing in individualism and independence.
